The Complex Truths about Copying is an open discussion space about knockoffs, design appropriation, and plagiarism. As we all know, copying is bad for many reasons: stealing someone else’s creativity without permission is wrong, copying violates the ethics of creativity, and cheap fakes make it more difficult for designers to sell more expensive originals to make a living. But copying can make products more accessible to shoppers who cannot afford luxury goods. Copying can also be a means for creative people to appropriate dominant corporate languages and transform their meaning. Therefore, you can see here different points of view about copying and originality.
